"The Seven Sirens" è una raccolta di brani strumentali modern-classical composti e prodotti dal compositore olandese Michiel van Poelgeest, dove combina suoni di felt piano, elementi orchestrali e trame sonore di stampo ambient con l'obiettivo di creare paesaggi musicali intimi e, a volte, ultraterreni. Il forte potere narrativo dell'album trae origine dalla mitologia greca, come suggerisce il titolo stesso. Essere sposato con una classicista, non è certo una sorpresa, dice Michiel: "L'ho sentita raccontare quelle storie ai miei figli un milione di volte e mi hanno sempre ispirato. Poi, quando stavo scrivendo questo album, stavo anche leggendo Mythos, il romanzo di Stephen Fry, che mi ha trascinato ancora di più nella mitologia. Mi piace pensare di aver trasferito parte del potere narrativo di questi antichi racconti nell'album".
L'artista
Michiel van Poelgeest (1982) è un compositore olandese. La sua produzione è molto varia: spazia da partiture per pianoforte elettroacustico a paesaggi sonori costituiti da sintetizzatori ibridi distopici. L'educazione musicale di Van Poelgeest è iniziata quando aveva sette anni e ha iniziato a prendere lezioni di pianoforte. La sua formazione classica si è protratta per dieci anni, dopodiché i suoi interessi si sono spostati verso la musica elettronica e la composizioni. Nel 2010 ha prodotto e pubblicato un album pop moderno con lo pseudonimo di Villeneuf, seguito poi da un secondo album. Ha quindi girato i Paesi Bassi in tournée, suonando in innumerevoli luoghi e si è esibito in diretta televisiva in prima serata. Gli album sono stati accolti molto bene. Da allora ha poi continuato a comporre musica per film e televisione.

Description
The Seven Sirens is a collection of modern classical instrumental pieces written and produced by Dutch composer Michiel van Poelgeest. He uses a combination of felt piano, orchestral elements and ambient textures to create intimate and - at times - otherworldly musical landscapes. The album's strong narrative power derives its origin in Greek mythology, as the album title suggests. Being married to a classicist, this is hardly a surprise, says Michiel: "I've heard her tell those stories to my kids a million times, and they've always inspired me. Then, when I was writing this album, I was also reading Stephen Fry's novel Mythos, which got me into mythology even more. I like to think that I transferred some of the narrative power of these ancient tales into The Seven Sirens".
The Artist
Michiel van Poelgeest (1982) is a Dutch music composer. His output is very diverse: ranging from electro-acoustic piano scores to dystopic hybrid synthesizer soundscapes. Van Poelgeest's musical education started when he was seven years old and took up piano les-sons. His classical education went on for ten years, after which his interests shifted towards elec-tronic music and songwriting. In 2010 he produced and released a modern pop album under the pseudonym Villeneuf. A se-cond album would later follow. The band toured the Netherlands, played countless venues, and performed on live television during prime time. The albums were very well-received. He then went on to write music for film and television and has been doing that ever since.
